Biertan is a commune in central Romania, in the north of the Sibiu County, 80 km north of Sibiu and 29 km east of Media┼č. Biertan is one of the most important Saxon villages with fortified churches in Transylvania, having been on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1993. The Biertan fortified church was the see of the Lutheran Evangelical Bishop in Transylvania between 1572 and 1867.

Clara Barton

Clarissa "Clara" Harlowe Barton (December 25, 1821 ÔÇô April 12, 1912) was a pioneering nurse who founded the American Red Cross. She was a hospital nurse in the American Civil War, a teacher, and patent clerk. Barton is noteworthy for doing humanitarian work at a time when relatively few women worked outside the home. She had a relationship with John J. Elwell and received three proposals throughout her lifetime, but never married.

Dark prison

The dark prison is the informal name used by some Guantanamo Bay detainees for a secret prison they claim they were detained in near Kabul, Afghanistan. According to an article distributed by Reuters, eight Guantanamo detainees have described the conditions they were held under in "the dark prison".

National First Aid Society

National First Aid Society was founded by Clara Barton after her resignation from the American Red Cross. Its mission was to promote local first aid programs. It later became part of the American Red Cross.
