Freguesia

Freguesia é o nome que tem, em Portugal e no antigo Império Português, a menor divisão administrativa, correspondente à paróquia civil de outros países. Trata-se de subdivisões dos concelhos e são obrigatórias, no sentido de que todos os concelhos têm pelo menos uma freguesia (cujo território, nesse caso, coincide com o do concelho), exceto o de Vila do Corvo onde, por força do artigo 86º do Estatuto Político-Administrativo da Região Autónoma dos Açores, essa divisão territorial não existe.
