Ayin ' or is the sixteenth letter of the Semitic abjad, including Phoenician ʿayin , Hebrew ʿayin, Aramaic ʿē , Syriac ʿē ܥ, and Arabic ʿayn (where it is sixteenth in abjadi order only). comes twenty‐first in the Persian alphabet and eighteenth in the hijaʾi order of Arabic.
